A GROUP of rebels who refuse to pay fines and taxes consider their actions legal thanks to Clause 61 in the Magna Carta. They believe that ‘if the people are wronged by the Crown and no remedy is forthcoming after all steps have been exhausted, the people may take whatever action is necessary to obtain satisfaction without fear of reprisal’. That this clause was dropped in 1216 matters not a jot to these refuseniks. OUT OF THE ORDINARY (RADIO 4, 11AM) joins Jolyon Jenkins as he meets some of these dissenters, including one best described as downright alarming.

DAVID JASON (pictured) plays the Bishop of Lincoln in the comedy drama THE MAN WHO BIT MARY MAGDALENE (RADIO 4, 2.15PM), based on a true story about life in medieval Lincoln. The cathedral has

been reduced to ruins by an earthquake, and the Bishop is in despair. Then, the Blessed Virgin herself appears with a brilliant fundraising wheeze.

THE astrologer Russell Grant, who delighted us on Strictly, has been mad about show business since he was a boy. His parents worked at Pinewood Studios — his mother was in the contracts department, his father built film sets — and the ten-yearold Russell got a role in a TV drama. For this week’s FRIDAY NIGHT IS MUSIC NIGHT (RADIO 2, 8PM), Russell presents music from his favourite musicals.
