Flood is hoping the underdogs can bite

-

DUNDEE United midfielder Willo Flood insists the pressure is all on his former club Aberdeen in tomorrow’s New Firm Scottish Cup clash at Pittodrie. The Irishman admits Csaba Laszlo’s men couldn’t have asked for a much tougher encounter, but says the visitors will relish a welcome break from their recent struggles in the Championship after they fell 14 points behind leaders St Mirren. ‘This game has come at a good time for us because it’s been horrific lately,’ said Flood (pictured). ‘Especially when you consider how well we played in November and December. ‘Things can’t be worse for us, we need to get better as a football club, so it’s a free shot for us up there and the pressure is all on Aberdeen. ‘Under Derek McInnes, they have only moved in one direction and it will frustrate him he’s only won one trophy so far. He’s made big progress in all areas of the club but it’s cup wins he wants.’ The 32-year-old, a Dons player from 2013 to 2016, added: ‘We’re the underdogs but we have a chance to go up there and express ourselves. ‘If we keep it tight the first 20 minutes then we’ll have a chance to put them under pressure. ‘Aberdeen fans are demanding and they want to see goals. In a lot of games Aberdeen have the opposition dead by half-time, so if we go there and keep them quiet then the fans might turn on them a bit.’
