Love match, 50 years on

A COUPLE who fell in love watching Scotland play France 50 years ago returned to Murrayfield yesterday to watch their countries clash again.

Frenchman Jean Bernardi asked a then 21-year-old Fife art student, Evelyn Swankie, to help him load his camera.

Five decades later, Mr and Mrs Bernardi are happily married with two children.

It was love at first sight for Mr Bernardi, who was a 23-yearold railway worker, when he met his wife-to-be in 1968. The pair were married within a year.

The couple, who live in Bergerac and have two sons, were special guests at BT Murrayfield yesterday after their granddaughter wrote to Scottish Rugby to tell their love story.
