4 elephants killed in train crash
FOUR elephants were killed when they were hit by a highspeed train in India.
Another elephant was seriously injured in the accident, which derailed the engine, in Assam state. No passengers were injured.
The elephants were part of a larger herd migrating through the hilly forest region late on Saturday, where train tracks cut across so-called ‘elephant corridors’.
Railway authorities have introduced speed restrictions on some designated elephant corridors. It was unclear if the accident occurred in one of these zones.
