MISSING . . .

-

THE DAILY MAIL offers readers a unique opportunity to re-establish contact with long-lost relatives and friends. Each week, MONICA PORTER features the story of someone trying to find a missing loved one, as well as a tale of people reunited. This column is produced in conjunction with the voluntary tracing service Searching For A Memory, run by Gill and John Whitley. READER Simon Debell writes: ‘I am trying to trace Ron Butler, who was a good friend of my father, Frank.

‘I am 53 and met Ron when I was a child, but I don’t remember much about him.

‘I believe he had ginger hair and a beard and my father tells me he worked for the ambulance service and lived in Victoria Street in Gillingham, Kent.

‘Ron may have driven a Wolseley car with the letters LUV on the registration plate — my dad always smiles when telling me this.

‘He has fond memories of his younger days, causing mayhem with Ron and a few other teenage tearaways. One time, they got Ron’s car up to 70 mph driving downhill on the A2 on the way to Margate.

‘I believe they played football together for the liquorice allsorts team — no connection to the sweets, they just wore different coloured shirts!

‘They used to lose most games as they could never work out who to pass the ball to.

‘My dad is 78 and has been diagnosed with a rare form of dementia as well as Alzheimer’s, so his mind is not as strong as it once was.

‘I know his face would light up if he could meet Ron again before his memory gets worse.

‘And if anyone else remembers Dad from those long-gone days, I’d love them to get in touch.’
