A FEW months ago, Linda Swan, nee Bradley, wrote: ‘I wonder if you can track down my friend Jillian Carver.

‘We met when we started at St Anne’s Church of England Infants’ School in Old Swan, Liverpool, 70-odd years ago. We became good pals and it wasn’t until we sat scholarship exams that our paths went in different directions: Jillian went to Holly Lodge Grammar School and then university.

‘I stayed on at St Anne’s and went to commercial college, where I studied shorthand and typing. I did secretarial work until retiring, aged 60.

‘My photo shows Jillian with a group of us at Colomendy Summer Camp in Denbighshire, North Wales, in the summer of 1951. She was a great source of comfort to me as I was homesick.

‘I am 76 and live in St Helens. I even called my daughter Jillian after the dear friend I never forgot. It would be lovely if we could meet again.’

My volunteer researchers, Jeff Pinson, Marigold Cleeve and David Kilby, located Jillian living in Oxford.

Since 1963, she has been Mrs Jillian Parkes.

‘I would like to thank you for tracing Jillian and let you know that we have spoken on the phone,’ says Linda.

‘We had a long conversation and will keep in touch. I’m very grateful to you all.’
