THIS nicely pitched new prequel to The Big Bang Theory (which returns at 8pm) follows genius Sheldon (Iain Armitage, pictured) at school. On his first day, he turns up in a bow tie and is very honest with everyone. Bad move. There’s a depth to this show that should give it mileage, and the humour is less cartoonish than that in Big Bang.

MOVING MESSAGES My Wonderful Life, 9pm, Sky One

LINDA BANKS (pictured) reflects on facing death in the second new episode of Sky’s admirable celebratio­n of lives passed. She has planned a ‘campaign of fun’ — a mix of surprises and messages for loved ones — that will begin six months after she dies. This programme follows that legacy.

FASCINATIN­G FACTS From Ice To Fire: The Incredible Science Of Temperatur­e, 9pm, BBC4

PART two of Dr Helen Czerski’s eye-opening series focuses on how important temperatur­e is to living beings, especially to those that cannot regulate their own, such as butterflie­s. She also explores the effect water has on the level of heat on our planet.
