WE’VE heard a lot recently about how much smaller many of our favourite chocolate treats have become.
But while we may lament a shrinking chocolate bar, many everyday foods have exploded in size in recent years. Larger sizes now
hreaten people’s health by ncouraging them to overeat, ccording to experts from Camridge University, including the govrnment’s chief adviser on obesity. Thanks to a government ublication — Food Portion Sizes, roduced in 1993 by the Food Standrds Agency — from 25 years ago we can see how big the increases are. Here, TESSA CUNNINGHAM compares the sizes and calorific content of everyday food products and ready meals from the guide with the same items in today’s supermarket aisles (our pictures show how much you’d have got in 1993 and now).
