The boots that reached new heights of Uggliness

YOU could be forgiven for going to considerable lengths to keep warm during the recent cold snap. But even with a storm raging, these might be a step too far.

The notoriously unflattering Ugg boot is back – and more unappealing than ever, if these designs are anything to go by.

Models took to the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week wearing a clunky thigh-high version of the boots, which ballooned around their legs. Others stepped out in slouchy stiletto-heeled varieties – with the furry lining spilling over the top.

Glenn Martens, creative director of Y/Project, the Parisian fashion house behind the designs, said he wanted to ‘trigger’ people with his creations, adding: ‘By reworking the classic boot with a twist, we want to celebrate Ugg’s unique history.’

Uggs became hugely popular in the early 2000s, with celebrities such as Kate Moss and Jennifer Aniston wearing them. They were derided for being shapeless and sexless – but millions still swear by the sheepskin-lined boots for comfort and cosiness.

Mr Martens described slipping on an Ugg boot as like ‘putting your foot in a warm pot of butter’. He said: ‘I thought, why not immerse your full legs?’ The new boots go on sale in the autumn.
