Police launch inquiry into ‘tragic death’ of 17-year-old at family home
‘Waiting to see what really happened’
A TEENAGE boy has been arrested after a 17-year-old was found dead in his family home.
Calum Lumb was discovered unconscious at a property in Moffat, Dumfriesshire, on Monday night.
He was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary by ambulance at 9pm but was later pronounced dead.
Yesterday, police officers continued to search the property on the High Street of the town, with forensic specialists combing the flat for clues.
The schoolboy arrested over the incident – who cannot be named for legal reasons – is aged 15.
Last night, police said he was ‘not officially accused of any offence at this time’ but had been ‘assisting the police with their investigation’ throughout the day.
Yet officers said no one else was being hunted in connection with the incident, which was described as ‘isolated’.
Calum, who lived in the block of sandstone flats with his mother and brother, had been working as an apprentice roofer but had been off during the severe weather.
One nearby resident said: ‘I don’t think the family are local to this area but have been here for some time.
‘We have not heard very much about it but everyone is shocked by the young lad’s death.
‘We haven’t had anything like this in Moffat that I can remember. We are just waiting to see what has really happened.’
Chief Inspector Stephen Stiff said: ‘Officers are continuing to carry out inquiries into the circumstances surrounding this tragic death, and we will continue our patrols around the town.
‘I can say at this stage we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this matter. Officers remain in position at the scene and will do for some time.
‘A forensic examination of the property is currently under way.’
