Police hunt for man’s ear after brawl at village pub

A MAN had part of his ear cut off in a ‘massive brawl’ involving up to 40 people.

Police have appealed for informatio­n after the fight outside the Black Horse Hotel in Newton Stewart, Wigtownshi­re.

As many as 40 revellers spilled into the street outside the pub on Saturday night and two men needed hospital treatment.

It is understood one victim, a 29-year-old man, lost part of his ear in the brawl.

A man and a woman have been arrested and police yesterday appealed for witnesses.

One person wrote on social media: ‘I was walking home at one-ish and they [police] were looking for someone’s ear.’

Police were called to the pub at 11.35pm on Saturday.

A man was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary

‘Men found with serious injuries’

with an injury to his ear. He was later released.

Another man, 48, was taken to the same hospital after suffering facial injuries. His condition was described as stable by medical staff.

A 38-year-old man was arrested in connection with an alleged serious assault, and a 46-yearold woman was arrested over an alleged breach of the peace.

Detective Sergeant Andy McDowall said: ‘We understand at the height of the disturbanc­e there could have been as many as 30 to 40 people involved.

‘Two men were found with serious injuries and it is likely other people would have been hurt during this violent incident.

‘I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the disturbanc­e, or even attempted to help break it up, to get in touch to help us establish the full circumstan­ces and identify those at fault.’
