THIS IS WHAT 51 LOOKS LIKE
LIZ BARBER lives in Essex with her husband, Andy, and works as an IT consultant. They have two children, Jaden, 19, and Addison, 14.
LONG LASH REMEDY
I USED to have long lashes, but sometimes they need more of a boost. So, I take silica to strengthen my lashes, hair and nails. I always notice a difference, because my highlights grow out faster, in four not six weeks. Try silica remedies or Holland & Barrett’s High Strength Silica Complex Caplets (£22.59, hollandandbarret.com).
MULTI-TASKING MOISTURISER
I’M OBSESSED with Poundland’s £1 Argan Oil Hair Treatment. I used to buy expensive products, but it’s super hydrating and works wonders to smooth frizz. I apply it to wet hair and dry ends. Plus, it makes an amazing moisturiser for dry skin — I use it on my face, arms and legs, too. It’s definitely the reason I still have good skin.
CIDER VINEGAR BOOSTER
EVERY morning, I detox by drinking apple cider vinegar. It’s so energising, which helps my underactive thyroid. To make it tastier, I mix a capful with two lemon slices, 1tsp honey and hot water. Then I take it to work in a reusable water bottle to drink during the day. Try Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar (£6.99, hollandandbarrett.com).
SAVVY SHOE QUEEN
I’M 5ft 3in tall, so love wearing heels to add height — I own 20 pairs of courts! But I never spend over £25: you can find great bargains in shops such as Debenhams. In the past, I’d splurge £120 on posh brands with diamante heels. But I only wore them twice. It’s also pricey to re-heel shoes and they can still look worn out.
ACTIVE HOLIDAYS
AS I’VE got older, my holidays have become a lot more active — I won’t be slowing down any time soon. This year, I’m going to Spain with my family, for two weeks of sailing, water-skiing, snorkelling, horse-riding and yoga. While I try to do three exercise classes a week when I’m at home, work and family commitments often get in the way. So fitness holidays give me the chance to recharge, de-stress and invest more time in my health.
