Little girl’s homework sketch: her hungover mummy!

- By Christina Wood

THEY are normally viewed with pride and amusement before being displayed on the family fridge.

But one child’s classroom drawing on display at a parents’ evening left her mother mortified.

It showed her lying in bed suffering with a hangover.

Margaret Stevenson attended a drop-in parents’ evening last month and began looking through her seven-year-old daughter Lucie’s schoolwork when her husband, Scott Stevenson, 39, pointed out the picture.

The mother of two was left stunned after seeing the sketch of herself lying in bed with a sick bucket by her side.

Lucie wrote next to the drawing: ‘On Sunday my mummy got sick. She [had] horrible juices to drink and she needs to rest.’ The teacher had written underneath: ‘Oh I hope she feels better soon!’

Mrs Stevenson, from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, said: ‘I was mortified. Kids are truthful and they say what they think.

‘It is funny what they take in. I thought it was ingenious to include the sick bucket.

‘Scott couldn’t stop laughing. He thought it was hilarious. We are still laughing about it now.

‘We have shown the drawing to family and everybody loves it.’

After going on a girls’ night out in November last year and drinking a few too many glasses of Prosecco, the 39-year-old developed a terrible hangover and spent most of the next day in bed.

Lucie was a bit worried after seeing her mother in bed with a hangover, so her father told her that she had drunk too much ‘horrible juice’.

Mrs Stevenson said: ‘I remember she was laughing about it at the time but she was quite concerned. She doesn’t know about drinking and hangovers.’

She added: ‘I’m sure the teacher would have put two and two together. I haven’t actually met her teacher yet but I’m pretty sure she will see the funny side of it.

‘I had been drinking Prosecco. It was lethal. I can no longer drink it because of that night. I don’t drink very often. It was a particularly bad hangover. I stayed in bed all day.

‘It must have stuck with Lucie because I don’t really drink so she hasn’t seen me like that before. Kids do the funniest things.

‘It could have been worse. She kept walking in on me with my head over the toilet, so at least that wasn’t in the picture.’
