I saw body in the home of dead woman, witness tells murder trial

- By Grant McCabe

A CHARITY worker yesterday told a court he saw a body in the home of a woman allegedly murdered by her sister and her own daughter.

Mark Grant, 32, said he visited the home of Lynette Greenop,

0, and Shayla Greenop, 20, in August 2016 to pick up an unwanted couch.

He said he pushed open a bedroom door and caught a glimpse of someone lying on the floor with ‘blood on top of the head’.

Both women are accused of murdering Sharon Greenop,

6, at the home they shared in Troon, Ayrshire.

It is claimed the bedridden woman had been assaulted on various occasions between September 8 and November 10, 2016.

The pair are also accused of claiming Miss Greenop’s state benefits after her death – a charge which includes claims that they burned scented candles to ‘conceal the smell emanating from the decomposing body’.

Giving evidence at the High Court in Glasgow yesterday, Mr Grant said he caught a fleeting glimpse of what he thought was a lifeless body.

He added: ‘I could not tell if it was male or female at the time. It looked like blood on top of the head. The person had a kind of hospital gown on. It was just five or six seconds I was in... glimpsed and back out.’

He said he did not speak to the figure or see any movement.

Miss Greenop had suffered a spinal injury in an accident in 2009 and could barely walk as a result.

The murder charge alleges that she was repeatedly struck with an ‘object or objects’ and that she had her neck compressed.

It is said injuries were also inflicted ‘by means unknown’ and that there was a failure to obtain medical help.

Miss Greenop is said to have been so severely hurt during these attacks that she died.

The two accused, who now live in Ayr, deny all charges.

The trial, before Lady Carmichael, continues.
