Two bodies recovered from the wreck of Nancy Glen

TWO bodies were yesterday recovered from the wreck of prawn trawler Nancy Glen.

Skipper Duncan MacDougall, 46, and crew member Przemek Krawczyk, 38, died after the boat sank on Loch Fyne in January.

A lifting barge this week raised the wreck of the vessel from a depth of 450ft.

The sole survivor of the tragedy, John Miller, raised the alarm and was rescued by a passing boat.

The crew of a passenger ferry tried to secure a line to the capsized trawler but it sank.

A major search was launched but no trace of the two men was found.

They both lived in the small fishing port of Tarbert, Argyll, only a few miles from where the boat sank.

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch conducted a seabed survey of the wreck of 40ft trawler but said they had no plans to raise it.

The Scottish Government then stepped in to work with salvage specialists to support efforts to retrieve the men’s bodies.

On Thursday it was disclosed that ‘human remains’ were on the trawler, and the Crown Office yesterday said two bodies had been recovered.

A Crown Office spokesman added: ‘The wreck has been lifted and the bodies of two people have been recovered.

‘The Crown’s Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit is directing the investigation to formally identify the deceased.’

On Thursday, villagers in the small fishing community said that there were mixed emotions over the trawler being raised.

One local, who did not want to be named, said: ‘It’s a very strange feeling in the village. There’s a sense of happiness but it’s incredibly sad.’

A local hotel worker said: ‘The community will never be the same again.’

Nearly £300,000 was raised for efforts to raise the boat before the Scottish Government stepped in. It is understood this will go to the victims’ families.
