Tributes to journalist killed in dive horror
TRIBUTES have been paid to an award-winning underwater photographer who has died following a diving accident.
Gavin Anderson was pulled unconscious from the Firth of Clyde near Gourock, Renfrewshire, last Wednesday.
An Argyll Ferries vessel took him onboard and a Coastguard helicopter from Prestwick then lowered a paramedic on to the vessel.
Attempts were made to resuscitate Mr Anderson, 53, while he was taken to shore and transferred to an ambulance which took him to Inverclyde Royal Hospital in Greenock, where the photo-journalist, of Milnathort, Kinross, was pronounced dead.
A police spokesman said they were probing the accident.
Mr Anderson’s wife, Jennifer, said: ‘Diving and photo-journalism was where his passions were but he was also a great skier and he loved fishing.
‘He has a son, Joshua, who is 18 and who he was really proud of. He was a stepfather to my two boys and he was wonderful with all three of them. He will be missed very much.’
Mark Evans, editor-in-chief of the Scuba Diver Magazine, which featured one of Mr Anderson’s underwater images on the front page on the latest issue, said he would be ‘sorely missed’.
Close friend Tony Randell said: ‘Gavin and I were at boarding school together… one of my oldest friends.’
