With this Haribo I thee wed... school children across the UK stage their own royal weddings

- By Sam Greenhill Chief Reporter

THERE were cheers, flag waving and fluttering confetti as mini Harry and Meghans walked armin-arm across the country.

Dozens of schools held parties yesterday as children starred in their own versions of the royal wedding.

The brides wore white, the grooms looked sharp and Haribo rings were the flavour of the day.

Two pupils from Flakefleet Primary School in Fleetwood, Lancashire, ‘married’ in a real church.

Isabelle Sherlock and Charlie Twitchett, both ten, played Meghan and Harry for the day at Fleetwood Methodist Church, as members of the public lined the streets to welcome their very own mini royals. The mock wedding was intended to teach the children about British pride. Crowns, suits, flags and flowers costing thousands were donated in an event which captured the heart of the community.

The little couple arrived at the church in a horse-drawn carriage, and two lucky pupils got to watch from a helicopter after winning a raffle prize.

Headteacher Dave McPartlin said: ‘The children had a fantastic time. They made memories they’ll never forget. We all felt like we were part of something special.’

Elsewhere at Pilgrim Academy in Immingham, Lincolnshire, fiveyear-olds Jacob Clark and Victoria Parashkeveva exchanged rings made from Haribo sweets.

Their ‘wedding’ was conducted by parish priest Julie Donn, before the excited children got to the tastiest part of the ceremony – cutting the cake.

In Wigan, Lancashire, a photo of four-year-old cousins Sienna Harrison and Will Shepherd in wedding fancy dress was shared by the Holly Tree Nursery.

And in Repton, Derbyshire, seven-year-old Alex Wright was pictured smiling as ‘Meghan’ next to her ‘Harry’ Thomas Boddy, eight, from St Wystan’s Independent Preparatory School.
