JOCKEY IS JAILED AFTER 114mph CHASE

- By MARCUS TOWNEND Racing Correspondent

JOCKEY Charlie Deutsch has been jailed for ten months after pleading guilty to dangerous driving while over the drink-drive limit and escaping from police custody. The jockey, 21, drove off in his Audi A4 at up to 114mph after being stopped following a night out in Cheltenham in March. Gloucester Crown Court was told that Deutsch (right) panicked after being stopped by Sgt Marcus ForbesGeorge for speeding. After taking six attempts to provide a breath sample and pleading to be let off, Deutsch, who had three jockeys in his car, panicked and, despite efforts from Sgt Forbes-George to take his ignition keys, sped off on a five-mile chase, going the wrong way round a roundabout and driving on the wrong side of a dual carriageway. The chase ended when a stinger was deployed. Deutsch has ridden principally for Herefordshire trainer Venetia Williams. The partnership’s biggest win was Yala Enki in the Grand National Trial at Haydock. He rode 30 winners last season and was on board Houblon Des Obeaux in the National, falling at Becher’s Brook.
