THE MANAGERS

-

BRENDAN RODGERS

When he eventually leaves Celtic, Rodgers will surely do so with a PhD in the history of Scottish football, such has been his ability to rewrite it. Jock Stein won Trebles at Celtic in 1967 and 1969, as did Jock Wallace at Rangers in ’76 and ’78. Redoubtable achievements from two titans of the Scottish game. But they couldn’t quite do it back-to-back, with a year’s gap in between the two clean sweeps. Rodgers, then, has within his grasp the opportunity to do something truly unique.

STEPHEN ROBINSON

The little Northern Irishman has galvanised Motherwell through his sheer weight of personality as much as anything else. A real no-frills, down-toearth kind of guy, Robinson’s ability to motivate his players is clear in the fact they are undoubtedly greater than the sum of their parts. He is also more tactically astute than many would give him credit for, having twice held Celtic to a draw in the Premiership this season. Working class and proud of it, don’t expect him to fear the underdog tag. Rather, you can guarantee it will form a large part of his team-talk.
