Trump IS planning golf trip to Scotland

- By Larisa Brown Defence and Security Editor

DONALD Trump plans to extend his trip to Britain to three days so he can play golf with a celebrity sportsman at his Scottish resorts, it can be revealed.

The US President is expected to head to his courses in Ayrshire and Aberdeenshire during his visit to the UK this summer.

His programme has not yet been fixed but officials are working on a number of options that he will be asked to choose from as soon as next week.

It is understood he will fly to the UK on Thursday, July 12, for a dinner following the Nato summit in Brussels.

The next day he will enjoy a full-scale charm offensive as he is whisked around the

country so that he can see the best of Britain.

On the Saturday, he is expected to visit his Trump Turnberry golf resort on the Ayrshire coast and the Menie Estate in Aberdeenshire to play golf with a celebrity.

Mr Trump’s company has invested £750million at the Menie resort, along with £150million worth of upgrades at Turnberry.

Other options on the table include tea with the Queen and talks with Prime Minister Theresa May at Downing Street or at her Chequers country retreat.

It is also understood the US President is keen to come on a state visit to the UK rather than a working visit, but that has been put back until next year at the earliest.

He could also be taken on a private tour of the Churchill War Rooms in Whitehall, London, in recognition of his admiration for the wartime leader.

One of Mr Trump’s first acts as president was to restore a Churchill bust to a prominent place in the Oval Office at the White House. The proposed visit to the underground bunker is believed to stem from the fact he loved the film Darkest Hour.

It is understood Mr Trump will have tea with the Queen, possibly at Windsor Castle, where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle married, or at Buckingham Palace.

He is unlikely to meet her at Balmoral, despite the idea being previously suggested as a way of shielding him from protesters.

During the three-day programme, the Government plans to showcase the special UK-US defence and security relationship.

No details have been put forward but the Queen Elizabeth carrier – which will have both US and UK F-35 jets flying off it in a joint mission – is berthed at Portsmouth.

Mr Trump visited the Isle of Lewis, the birthplace of his mother, Mary MacLeod, in 200 .
