COME ON, MEGHAN, REACH OUT TO DAD

THOMAS MARKLE, the Duchess of Sussex’s father, gave an interview to Good Morning Britain this week, a great scoop for the effervescent ITV show.

Mr Markle seemed an amiable and honest man and didn’t say anything too outrageous — but surely his appearance must have driven an icicle into the very heart of his relationship with his daughter and her husband?

It also raised more questions than it answered.

Why has Harry yet to meet his father-in-law? If Mr Markle really did have heart surgery, why didn’t Meghan go to visit him?

Why is no one taking care of him, to gently discourage these embarrassing TV appearances? What the heck is going on?

Mr Markle had clearly had some form of telephonic conversation with the couple after the wedding, but that seems to be the extent of their contact. The Palace must be furious at this continuing drip-drip seepage of paternal mortification.

If Meghan and her father had a close relationship, it seems now to be well and truly over. And, with every media appearance, it moves further beyond repair. Why can’t she make amends, make nice and bring him into the family fold?

That is the real Markle mystery.
