Craft beer maker gets £40m from Heineken

HEINEKEN has snapped up a stake in trendy north London craft beer firm Beavertown Brewery.

The Dutch brewing titan will inject Beavertown with £40m to build a 450,000 hectolitre brewery – ten times the size of its current operations – in exchange for a minority stake. The new site in London will create 150 jobs.

Heineken’s purchase, for an undisclosed sum, marks its latest attempt to get a foothold in the craft beer market. Last year it bought a minority stake in Brixton Brewery.

Beavertown was founded in 2011 and began serving its beer in an Americanstyle BBQ restaurant in London. It was set up by Logan Plant, the son of Led Zeppelin frontman Robert, who still runs the business and will stay on as chief executive.

A Beavertown spokesman said: ‘There will be no recipe changes or external pressures on our brewing and business decisions. We will be focused on making our beer even better.’
