THE Great Exhibition of the North is a summer-long event that praises the spirit of the North of England. LAUREN LAVERNE (10AM, BBC 6 MUSIC) joins in that celebratio­n as she broadcasts her show from Sage Gateshead this morning. Lauren will be chatting with singer Roisin Murphy and featuring music from Rachel Unthank and Maximo Park’s Paul Smith.

THE NHS has its roots in South Wales. In 1890, various benevolent societies came together to form the Tredegar Workmen’s Medical Aid and Sick Relief Fund, which, by 1933, offered help to most of the local population.
