BRAZIL DOUBTS OVER MARCELO

-

SWEDEN defender Andreas Granqvist has hinted he will captain his country in their World Cup last-16 clash against Switzerland on Tuesday, despite the fact his wife is due to give birth to the couple’s second child on the same day. ‘It’s hard to go home when you have a last-16 game to play,’ said Granqvist. ‘So far, nothing has happened at home. We know how the situation is — my wife is very strong and she has many of her nearest and dearest around her.’ BRAZIL claim Marcelo is recovering well from his back injury but it is unclear if he will be available for the round-of-16 match against Mexico on Monday. The Brazilian federation said Marcelo is ‘undergoing treatment’ but did not give a timetable for his recovery. Marcelo had to be replaced ten minutes into Brazil’s 2-0 win against Serbia in Moscow.
