Body of missing man, 25, recovered from loch
THE body of a man who went missing while swimming in Loch Lomond was yesterday pulled from the water.
Rebin Rehman Ibrahimi, 25, was at Balloch Pier, Dunbartonshire, when he was seen entering the water on Wednesday evening.
Friends raised the alarm when the swimmer, from Glasgow, got into difficulty and did not resurface.
A search and rescue operation was launched, but was suspended overnight and resumed yesterday morning.
Police confirmed a man’s body was recovered from the loch at 10.20am.
Friends of Mr Ibrahimi, who was born in Iraq, paid tribute to him on social media. Stephanie Crawford wrote: ‘He’s a friend of my friend, he was there when it happened. RIP Rebin, you’ll be sadly missed.’
Demi Mcenhill added: ‘RIP Rebin. You were such a lovely guy.’ Another friend, Walíd K Kíng, wrote: ‘RIP dear best friend Rebin.’
A spokesman for the Loch Lomond Rescue Boat said: ‘Our crews were involved in this search yesterday, through the night and this morning.’
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: ‘About 9.20pm on Wednesday a man was seen entering the water near the pier at Balloch.
‘Following a search of the loch the body of a man was recovered at 10.20am on Wednesday.
‘The man has not yet been formally identified and inquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances of the incident.’
According to Mr Ibrahimi’s Facebook profile, he graduated from Glasgow’s Clyde College in 2015 and was originally from the Iraqi city of Sulaymaniyah.
