More cash than sense

-

WITH taxpayers squeezed, the NHS on life support and all public services struggling, how much longer can the £14billion-a-year madness of foreign aid go on?

As the Mail reveals today, ministers are so desperate to meet their target of spending 0.7 per cent of national income on aid that they’re doubling the amount handed directly to families in cash.

Dogged by fraud and corruption, the scheme is probably the least cost-effective way of helping Third World countries to become self-sufficient.

Could there be any starker evidence that the Department for International Development has more money than it knows how to spend?
