The ideal way to escape... deserted isle that’s yours for £120,000

‘Natural island beauty at its best’

WITH no buildings, services or transport links and only a patchy mobile phone signal, Eilean Nan Gabhar is the ideal place to quietly slip off the radar.

Now the uninhabited island is on the market for £120,000.

However, anyone thinking of buying the ‘Island of the Goats’ is warned they must organise transport to the outcrop ‘at their own risk’.

Sitting about 30 miles south of Oban in Loch Craignish on Argyll’s west coast, the island extends to 13 acres of rugged natural beauty.

It has a secluded bay where boats can be safely anchored, a pebble beach, abundant flora and ancient woodland.

But the island is without modern services such as water and electricity, and has no buildings. The nearest settlement is the village of Kilmartin on the A816 south of Oban, and the closest town is Lochgilpead, eight miles further south.

Eilean Nan Gabhar has belonged to the same family for more than 70 years and selling agent Galbraith describes it as a ‘superb example of natural island beauty at its best’.

The brochure reads: ‘The island offers a stunning landscape to explore and from which to watch wildlife. Fishing is also possible.

However, Galbraith does state that any applicants who wish to visit the island will have to do so with their own transport and at their own risk.

It adds: ‘There are no services on the island and no buildings of any kind. However, the selling agents have been informed that a good Vodafone signal can be accessed from parts of the island.’
