Her first visit from the tooth fairy – at just 12 days old!

- Daily Mail Reporter

A BABY girl had to go to the dentist to have a tooth extracted at the age of just 12 days.

Most youngsters start teething at about six months – but not Isla-Rose Heasman.

The dentist who carried out the procedure said she was the youngest patient the practice has ever treated.

Her mother Jasmin said she ‘never expected’ to take her daughter to the dentist at such a young age.

‘She had to have it taken out as it was wobbly,’ she said. ‘She was braver than me, she didn’t really cry. I had to go out of the room crying because I couldn’t stand seeing my princess in pain. It looks weird her not having a tooth now.’

Isla-Rose, from Plymouth, was given numbing cream before the procedure as she was too young for anaesthetic.

The Seventrees Dental Access Centre in the city also gave their tiny patient a sticker for being brave although she will not appreciate it until she is bit older.

On average, babies start teething at about six months but some start as young as four months and others not until 12 months. The British Dental Association said about one in 2,000 tots is born with natal teeth.

They are often loose because the roots are not properly developed. BDA scientific advisor professor Damien Walmsley said: ‘It can lead to problems with breastfeeding and ulceration of the tongue.’
