Services lose momentum

BUSINESS activity lost momentum for the first time since the spring, a survey revealed.

THE Markit/CIPS services purchasing managers’ index showed a reading of 53.5 in July, down from 55.1 in June. A reading above 50 indicates growth. IHS Markit said the service sector moved back into the slow lane, weighed down by the hot weather and the football World Cup.
