LET THE SHOWS BEGIN!
PuRISTS may sniff, but you don’t need to be that interested in cars to enjoy some of the automotive extravaganzas taking place over the next few weeks. Indeed, while cars of every style, vintage and value may delight the petrolhead in the family, event organisers know they must also appeal to the rest of the clan being ‘dragged along’. Just take a look at what’s going on . . . ThE classic Goodwood Revival celebrates its 20th anniversary of stepping stylishly back in time — and there are still some last-minute tickets to be had.
It recreates Goodwood’s racing heyday between 1948 and 1966, when it closed. About 150,000 people in vintage dress will descend on the West Sussex time capsule from Friday, September 7 to Sunday 9.
If you don’t have the gladrags, costumes to hire or buy are on-site.
And to complete the look, you can have your hair styled to match at
salons for women and barbers for the chaps. details and tickets: goodwood. com/revival, 01243 755055.
n ElSEWhERE, dJ Chris Evans is hosting CarFest South — a frenetic blend of cars, food, live music, family entertainment and a host of celebrities — at laverstoke Park Farm, hampshire, from Friday, August 24 to Sunday, August 26, with the option of camping and ‘glamping’. Supercars including Aston Martin’s new dBS Superleggera will tackle a new track designed to replicate corners from iconic grands prix tracks.
Music comes from Paloma Faith, Status Quo, Alfie Boe & Michael Ball, The Proclaimers, Jools holland, Texas and more. See carfest.org.
WINSToN ChuRChIll’S former home, Blenheim Palace, in oxfordshire, will be hosting two contrasting events. Salon Privé (Thursday, August 30 to Saturday, September 1) is the place to see and be seen.
September 2 sees the less formal (and far cheaper) Classic & Supercar event. For details, see salonpriveconcours.com and blenheimclassicsupercar.com.
