A decade late as Sharleen says I DO want a lover
IN one of her biggest hits she claimed: ‘I Don’t Want A Lover.’
But now, almost 30 years after the release of the song by her band Texas, Sharleen Spiteri has clearly had a change of heart.
The singer married TV chef Bryn Williams in a scenic church in the north Wales countryside on Saturday.
The couple exchanged vows in front family and friends at the 15th century church of St Tyrnog in the village of Llandyrnog.
The Say What You Want star, 50, and her husband called in some celebrity favours for their big day.
She wore a white lace bridal gown with ornate floral embroidery and a tulle train, designed by her close friend Stella McCartney who attended the wedding.
To drive to the reception, the happy couple were also lent a £3million Aston Martin DB5 by DJ Chris Evans.
The newlyweds hosted a reception for around 500 guests in a marquee at their nearby home.
They had been together for more than a decade before Mr Williams finally popped the question in January last year, going down on one knee in their garden in Wales.
Speaking after getting engaged last year, the new Mrs Williams, who was born in Bellshill, Lanarkshire, said: ‘After ten years, he’s actually asked to marry me – it took that blooming long. I thought he was having a heart attack. Who knows what spurred him on?’
The singer joked that she stalked her now-husband, 41, for a year but he did not pick up the signals when she kept dropping into his Odette’s restaurant in north London.
After she struck up conversation with him on the stairs by saying she recognised him from his appearances on TV, he eventually asked her out in 2007.
The Reverend Val Rowlands, who conducted the marriage ceremony, told The Sun: ‘It was a truly lovely wedding service.
‘I was told there were a few celebrities in the church but, to be honest, I just kept my eyes and mind on Sharleen and Bryn.’
