Every picture tells a story... as Sir Rod tops charts again
HE first reached number one in the UK album charts 47 years ago with Every Picture Tells A Story.
And Sir Rod Stewart was celebrating this weekend after reaching the milestone once again with his latest album, Blood Red Roses.
The singer, 73, posted a picture of himself sitting behind a cake with firework candles and wrote: ‘If you had told me all those years ago when Every Picture was the #1album in the UK, that I’d be celebrating a #1 album in 2018...’
Earlier in the week, Sir Rod posted a short clip of himself to his 263,000 followers as he thanked his fans for their support.
He wrote: ‘Thank you to the Great British public for making Blood Red Roses #1. I’m grateful, I’m humbled, and feel like I just
‘I feel like I scored the winning goal’
scored the winning goal in front of the home crowd.’
It comes after the singer was reported to have had a ‘secret cancer scare’ when doctors discovered a lump during a routine screening in 2016.
He was said to have been diagnosed with an enlarged prostate but was later told he had ‘benign prostatic hyperplasia and did not need surgery’ although he will require regular check-ups.
A source told The Sun on Sunday: ‘Rod had been feeling a bit lethargic but didn’t think there was anything too wrong.
‘But his prostate was found to be enlarged, which came as a huge shock. Luckily the prognosis was excellent. Rod told those closest to him he had prostate problems but, at the time, didn’t want to make a big fuss.’
In 2000, Sir Rod revealed that he feared losing his singing voice after doctors removed a cancerous growth from his thyroid gland. The singer was operated on at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles and was told his voice would return within six months.
The star shares two sons Aiden, seven, and Alastair, 12 with Loose Women panellist and former model Penny Lancaster.
Despite their father’s wealth, the boys are often subject to the notoriously frugal ways of the singer once described by former bandmate Ronnie Wood as ‘tight as two coats of paint’.
Sir Rod has admitted he refills his children’s open bottles of pop to save cash.
He said: ‘Two mouthfuls off the top, then they just leave them.
‘What I do is I pour them all into one big bottle, then I refill them and screw the tops back on. They never know.’
