How chefs finally buried hatchet over a barbecue

- By Eleanor Sharples

FOR years celebrity chefs Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver have been at each other’s throats.

After the Naked Chef likened the Kitchen Nightmares star to a ‘dementia sufferer’ it looked like there was no way back.

But the Scots chef has disclosed the two have finally buried the hatchet.

Ramsay said he and his rival Mr Oliver had kissed and made up after their families joined forces on holiday in Cornwall.

He tells next week’s Radio Times: ‘This year we spent July and August in Cornwall. Then funnily enough, in the last week, Jamie Oliver and his family rented next door, so we put on a barbecue together.

‘Jamie went to pick up the tongs and I said, “No, you’re my guest”. “No, allow me.” Once we’d had our domestic, it was over to me.’

The chefs have been feuding since 2009 when Oliver defended an Australian journalist Renfrewshire-born Ramsay had criticised for her physical appearance.

Ramsay, known for his loud mouth and bad language, was at the Good Food and Wine Show in Melbourne, when he compared television reporter Tracy Grimshaw to a pig.

In August last year Oliver, 43, compared Ramsay, 51, to a ‘dementia sufferer’ after the foul-mouthed chef ridiculed his cooking when he was presenting ITV’s The Nightly Show earlier in the year.

During the programme Ramsay mocked Oliver’s cooking, cracked jokes about his restaurants and even referred to him as ‘fat’ and a ‘one-pot wonder’.

Responding to Ramsay’s insults Oliver said: ‘It’s like going to see someone you love who has dementia who doesn’t remember what they’ve said.’

The rivals have attempted to make peace on a number of occasions but have failed to until now.
