Me lose at roulette? I wouldn’t bet on it

-

Years ago, I was travelling through the U.s. when I stopped at a hotel in Las Vegas. In the evening I went for a stroll to find a restaurant and was fascinated by the brightly lit casinos. I’ve had a strict code all my life of not gambling, but I went into a beautiful, sparking casino and was amazed at the hundreds of people betting. I started to watch one roulette table and noticed that every time the ball stopped twice on red, black would turn up next. after it happened three times, I took out a dollar bill and, when it had stopped twice on red, I put it on the black, feeling confident I’d win. But the red came up a third time, and before I could throw myself across the roulette table, my dollar was taken away. With tears pouring down my face after this failed attempt at gambling, I returned to the hotel. That night I hardly slept a wink. early next morning I went for a walk through the empty streets. The sun came out and a ray of light lit up the sidewalk ahead. There on the path was a dollar bill. I still have that note. Who says there’s no such thing as a guardian angel? Brian V. Reynolds,

Herne Bay, Kent.
