Family comes first for wanted man Hogg

- By SEAN VINCENT and SOPHIE WATKISS

SCOTLAND full-back Stuart Hogg insists his next career move will be determined by what is best for his family. The 26-year-old, currently sidelined following ankle surgery, is out of contract at Glasgow Warriors next summer and is certain to be highly sought after by top clubs in England and France. Reports have suggested the British and Irish Lion could become the highest-paid European player in history by landing a ‘seven-figure’ deal across the Channel. Hogg has confessed he sees himself moving away from Scotland at some point in his career. But the Borderer, who is married with two children, is adamant that his family will come first in any decision he makes. ‘I’d love to travel at some point and experience other things,’ he said. ‘Is the time now? I don’t know. There’s a little bit of interest from other places. ‘There’s three things that I go by. It’s family, lifestyle and then rugby. That’s the order. I need to be in a position to look after my family.’ Hogg underwent ankle surgery last month and was expected to be out of action for around three months. Glasgow and Scotland will be hoping their star player makes a full recovery as soon as possible, but Hogg is refusing to put a timescale on his return. He told the BBC: ‘I’m just concentrating on week by week and hitting my targets.’ Meanwhile, Callum Gibbins has admitted that Glasgow Warriors may regret deciding to kick for the corner rather than the posts at key moments during Sunday’s 13-3 Heinken Champions Cup defeat to Saracens at Scotstoun. Co-captain Gibbins said: ‘Maybe in hindsight we’ll look at it and it could have been the wrong decision, but at the time I felt we had them under pressure.’
