MARIA GIVES IT SOME WELLY
OCTOBER has yet to pass and, already, we need to up our galoshes game.
Jimmy Choo’s new £250 rubber Edith rain boot — a wellington by any other name — has proved popular with the fashion elite, whose motto, ‘More Money Than Sense, Sweetie’, is tattooed on their yoga-honed biceps.
I’d like to say how ridiculous the boots are — but oooh! That glossy, patent shine and knee-high cut? Divine. Apparently, they are just the thing to wear with bare legs for the transitioning autumn-towinter season, but we were doing that in Dundee 40 years ago, so what’s new?
Meanwhile, Maria Sharapova set the gold standard in welly-wearing, posing in a pair in the Cotswolds (left). There is a knack to looking good in galoshes, but it really helps if you are a 6ft 1in tennis player with racehorse legs.
And how has she accessorised this look? With a millionaire Old Etonian boyfriend called Alexander Gilkes. Game, set and match to clever Maria. In a welly-waving contest, who can beat that?
