Thirsty US troops drink Iceland dry
MORE than 6,000 American soldiers stationed in Iceland nearly drank its capital city dry ahead of Nato’s largest military exercise since the Cold War.
Many bars and pubs in Reykjavik had to make emergency beer runs to meet demand as the troops arrived for the start of Trident Juncture 18.
They were as willing to drink niche craft beers as they were more familiar lagers, Iceland Magazine reported. Restaurateurs in the city said they had never experienced such high demand.
Nearly 50,000 troops from 29 Nato allies, including Sweden and Finland, are involved in the operation.
