AFTER decades of living a wild, rock star lifestyle, his marriage to Penny Lancaster is credited with calming down the veteran singer.

But Sir Rod Stewart yesterday admitted he was once unfaithful to his model wife, 47, in the very early stages of their relationship.

The star, 73, was seen out with a young woman when he first began dating Miss Lancaster in 1999.

Appearing live alongside his wife on ITV’s Loose Women, he admitted to having a ‘dalliance’ with another woman. When asked about the incident, Sir Rod joked: ‘What time does this show end?’

He then went on to admit his indiscretion. ‘You’re talking a long time ago, 20 odd years ago,’ he said.

‘There was one dalliance, yeah. But otherwise we’ve been together and it’s been wonderful and everything.’

The veteran rocker revealed Miss Lancaster had given him an ultimatum: that she would be his only girlfriend or she would leave him.

‘She actually said … put her thumb down and said: “That’s it, you’re seeing me and nobody else. No sharing”.

‘It’s been that way ever since. I realised what a brave and honest, wonderful woman she is,’ he said.

The couple have now been married for 11 years and have two children, Alastair, 12, and Aiden, seven.

During a 2017 episode of Loose Women, on which Miss Lancaster is a regular panellist, she told how she had discovered she and Sir Rod were not dating exclusively when she found a photograph of him with a woman, whom he claimed was a friend of his daughter.

She added: ‘When I became a girlfriend of his, I didn’t want to be a girlfriend, I wanted to be the girlfriend, or else it wasn’t good enough for me. I remember finding a photograph of him with another woman and he went: “Oh, but it was my daughter’s friend”. And I said: “I warned you – bye, bye”.’

On the show yesterday, Sir Rod also spoke about being the father of eight children, with a 48-year gap between the oldest and youngest.

‘Because of all the age differences, I have to be a different type of father to all of them. You can’t treat the 12-year-old like you do the 26-year-old,’ he said. ‘I look at my phone and they’re all on there. They all call me. They’re like, “Dad, do you wanna come out to dinner?”. It’s amazing.’

The singer was notorious for his womanising and has been married three times.

In 2010 he admitted feeling ‘immature’ for sleeping with so many partners. ‘I was s***ing my way round the world, like most blokes probably would if they had my opportunities,’ he said.

Now, however, he is happy to settle for a simple kiss and a cuddle with his wife.

‘You know, I love sex with my wife but I love just giving her a hug before we go to bed,’ he said this year. He began dating Miss Lancaster in 1999 after the end of his marriage to actress Rachel Hunter.

‘A wonderful, honest woman’
