GEORGE Ellison of the 5th Royal Irish Lancers survived four years of horrific trench warfare only to be killed minutes before hostilities ceased.
The former miner, 40, was shot at 9.30am on November 11, 191 on horseback while on a patrol on the outskirts of Mons, Belgium.
