HAVING largely resolved the issues of the tense parents, Emily and Simon (David Tennant, pictured with Miley Locke), the final episode introduces us to the other set of grandparents and takes place on Ben’s birthday — during which Rosie (Locke), inevitably, takes most of the attention. She has a particular obsession with Emily’s dad (Nigel Planer) or ‘Gandalf’.

IN ONE of his last screen roles, Harry Dean Stanton plays a grumpy man on his last legs, trying to make sense of it all. A film that’s much more charming than it sounds.
TRUE CRIME Written In Blood, 10pm, CBS Reality
THE crime author Karin Slaughter (pictured) has a wonderful stillness about her and is very interesting when talking about how she mixes fact into her fiction. The real case she’s also talking about is the ‘Casanova killer’, who claimed he killed 35. (Freeview 66, Freesat 135, Sky 146, Virgin 148)

JIM CARREY takes a left-field turn to the dark side in this seedy thriller, based on a real crime. He’s the brooding cop looking into a murder linked to a recently published novel.
