I’m definitely taking Mick’s job in 2020, insists Kenny
StePheN KeNNy insists there is no chance of Mick McCarthy staying on as republic of Ireland manager after the former Dunfermline boss received written confirmation that he will take over in 2020. McCarthy was unveiled on Sunday at the same time as the Irish revealed that Dundalk boss Kenny would take over following the european Championships in two years’ time. Kenny will take charge of the Under-21s for now and, while McCarthy said that ‘a lot can happen’ in two years, his successor believes there are no circumstances which could force a change of plan. ‘Decisions have already been made,’ said Kenny. ‘In August 2020, it has been decided, in writing. ‘I’m delighted with the arrangement. ‘If Mick gets Ireland to the euros and does well, I’ll be delighted and then I’m taking over a confident team.’
