IT’S the penultimat­e episode of this vivid adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s finely woven tale of a fluctuatin­g friendship over the decades, with the conclusion following on Tuesday at 9pm. The drama in this hasn’t always been easy to watch, but the series as a whole has had a rare elegance.

THERE’S a neat reversal in tonight’s new episode as Joe is left powerless while Sharla pursues Joubert, and Bob decides to launch his own operation. The baddies are definitely on the back foot now, and try to cover their dirty tracks in an instalment that seriously ups the ante.

GROWN-UP DRAMA A Very English Scandal, 10pm, BBC4

ANOTHER chance to catch a finely acted drama that, while not for the easily offended, features one of Hugh Grant’s best performanc­es in a while. Grant plays Jeremy Thorpe, the ex-Liberal leader charged with conspiracy to murder his former lover, Norman Scott (Ben Whishaw).

FESTIVE FRIVOLITY Katie Price: My Crazy Christmas, 10pm, Quest Red

A SPECIAL that’s the opposite of traditiona­l festive family fare, this seasonal outing for ‘the Pricey’ is full of questions, such as: ‘What man will be in Katie’s life, if any?’ And: ‘Which of her family will be around the dinner table?’ Best watched as if it were a soap.
