UK’s most up-market property! Your own mountain for £1.6m
MANY people move to the countryside for the breathtaking views, fresh air and quieter pace of life.
And one particularly idyllic beauty spot is bound to be high on most buyers’ dream destination lists – a 1,750ft mountain.
Ben Shieldaig, near Torridon, Ross-shire, is on the market for £1.6million.
Nestled on a 4,000-acre estate, the land is home to rare wildlife and woodland.
It initially went on sale last year for £1.75million, along with the estate’s lodge, but failed to sell – despite the potential for a buyer to elevate their property portfolio to new heights.
Now, the Woodland Trust Scotland charity is aiming to snap up the mountain and is seeking donations through a crowdfunding appeal.
Ben Shieldaig is being sold by the Hon Hugh Tollemache.
The Eton-educated laird said he is selling up after 25 years because managing the resident deer population has ‘grown too much’. But the 72-year-old and his wife Rosie, 62, will keep hold of the lodge and surrounding 101 acres.
He said: ‘I have decided to sell the land because the stalking is very demanding.’
The laird, the youngest son of the fourth Baron Tollemache, has clashed with locals over claims he neglected an ancient Caledonian pine forest, which he had been paid thousands of pounds of public money to protect. He said the ‘misunderstanding’ had been resolved.
Woodland Trust Scotland director Carol Evans said: ‘This is a rare opportunity for us to bring a whole mountain under our care.’
