Cuts prove major blow for pipers
IT has been a key event in the piping world since 1930, attracting thousands of musicians from around the world.
But the future looks uncertain for the Scottish Pipe Band Championships.
The event, held in West Dunbartonshire every July, attracts 25,000 people and 250 bands but has been named as a potential cut as the local council tries to fill a £1.7million budget black hole.
Ian Embleton, chairman of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band and Association, said: ‘West Dunbartonshire Council has been a wonderful host and we would hope it isn’t being stopped.’
A council spokesman said: ‘The council will meet on February 14 to decide which budget options should go forward to public consultation.’
