MIKE DICKSON’S 10 FAVOURITE MOMENTS REPORTING ON ANDY MURRAY

-

1

Winning the 2012 US Open. His greatest triumph ended Britain’s men’s singles famine at Grand Slams since 1936. Holding off Djokovic in the fifth set was the pivotal moment of his career.

2

Winning Wimbledon 2013. The final game of the match when he had to ward off another Djokovic comeback was intense but the subsequent joy around SW19 was something to recall for ever.

3

The match-point lob to win the 2015 Davis Cup against Belgium. Superb in the whole campaign, his match-point rally to win the final topped the lot.

4

Watching Kyle Edmund win his French Open first round from the stands in 2015. Murray walked through the outside-court crowd to offer his support to a then obscure young Briton.

5

The second Wimbledon title in 2016. Not a great final when he beat Milos Raonic but Murray was at his most perfect on grass.

6

Olympic gold medal in Rio. Juan Martin del Potro refused to give up in the final but Murray was at his most unyielding.

7

Beating Djokovic at the O2 Arena in the 2016 World Tour finals to seal the year-end No 1 spot. It felt like this was peak Murray and so it has proved.

8

Winning the Miami Open in 2009. This was the first time it seemed that this really was a world No 1 in the making.

9

Gold medal at London 2012. Roger Federer was hammered in the final as Murray played his part in what was arguably the biggest weekend in British sport.

10

Press conference after he made the 2012 US Open final. Surreal when it was gatecrashed by a slightly tiddly Sir Sean Connery, Sir Alex Ferguson and his mother Judy.
