At the top of the pecking order — a parakeet!

- DEREK WHITING, Stokesley, N. Yorks.

EACH day in my garden, I am visited by sparrows, collared doves, wood pigeons, blackbirds, a pair of robins, a dozen or so starlings, a wren, a magpie, crows and long-tailed tits. They come for the seeds, suet balls and nuts I replenish each day, drink the fresh water I supply and some even have a bath. Imagine my surprise as I looked up from drinking my coffee to see not a squirrel on the nut feeder, but a parakeet (left) enjoying a feed. I had heard there are flocks in London gardens, but was amazed to see one in Yorkshire.
