Treble tops for Durrant at Lakeside

-

GLEN DURRANT claimed his third successive BDO World Championship title last night with a 7-3 victory over Scott Waites at Lakeside. Both players came into the match with 100-per-cent records in the showpiece event final, with Waites winning world titles in 2013 and 2016. Durrant took the opening set before Waites hit back to lead 3-2 in the best-of-13 sets final. But that was as good as it got for the Yorkshireman as Durrant reeled off the next five sets to win his third straight world crown — becoming just the second man to achieve the feat after Eric Bristow from 1984 to 1986. ‘It means the earth to do it against an absolute Lakeside legend like Scott, that was the icing on the cake,’ said Durrant. Waites, who was also looking to win his third BDO title, said: ‘I am gutted but we went into the break level and, to be honest, Glen didn’t give me a chance after that.’
