Ed Sheeran says he’s no longer going to pot

-

ED Sheeran, who once tried to ditch his ‘boring’ image by performing a song about his love of marijuana, claims to have given up the illegal drug.

‘I’ve stopped smoking weed,’ he declares. ‘I found myself just sitting at home watching films. I only ever create [when I’m] sober — I like to be alert.’

he adds: ‘I find most ideas happen when you have a cup of tea. For me, anyway.’

and it’s not just the class-B drug (meaning it is illegal to possess) that Sheeran shuns. he won’t have a drink until his live concerts have finished.

‘We don’t have booze in the venue until after the gig,’ says ed. ‘I love embracing chaos, but only when the job’s done.

‘I worked really hard to get into this position — and I’m going to continue working hard to maintain that position and grow.’

The comments represent a U-turn for the 27-year-old singer. In 2015, he wrote the song Sweet Mary Jane about marijuana (Mary Jane is slang for the drug), in which he crooned: ‘Oh Baby I was high last night/Café clouds and red lights.’

abandoning cannabis certainly seems to be paying dividends for the ginger-topped musician. earlier this month, I disclosed he had earned more than £106,000 a day last year, outshining even Premier League football stars.

accounts for his company, nathan Cable Touring — through which he channels his income from ‘live performance of music’ — disclosed that he has amassed £38.8 million in the past year.

and that’s just one of his companies. For his ‘writing, recording and production of music’, he owns a separate firm, ed Sheeran Ltd, which pays him an additional £75,000 a day.

In an interview with Q magazine, Sheeran claims to have helped make red hair fashionable, saying: ‘Parents with ginger children come up to me and go: “It’s now cool to have ginger hair.”’
