Worrall to stay while Polster is on his way

- By JOHN McGARRY

STEVEN GERRARD has moved to tie up a deal for American utility man Matt Polster — and confirmed Joe Worrall will remain at Rangers for the rest of the season. Polster, a 25-year-old international, was recently on trial at Ibrox after stalling on signing a new contract with Chicago Fire. Known to Gerrard from his time in the MLS, he impressed sufficiently to merit the offer of a long-term

deal in Glasgow. Provided there are no glitches, the man from Milwaukee will join Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis in bolstering the squad. ‘We’re in talks with his agent,’ said Gerrard ahead of tonight’s Scottish Cup tie at Cowdenbeath. ‘We haven’t got it over the line just yet. But we’ve told his advisers we’d like him to come. It would be a long-term deal. ‘I know him well from the MLS. He can play in numerous positions. He’s a good professional, in good shape and he’s got the potential to be a first-team player.’ Although centre-back Worrall, 22, is on loan from Nottingham Forest until the summer, the English Championship club retains the right to recall him this month. Martin O’Neill’s return to the City Ground prompted speculation that Worrall may now be required by his parent club, but Gerrard (below) has received confirmation the player is his until June. The Rangers boss said: ‘I’m delighted to have him and really happy we’ve got him until the end of the season.’ Jordan Rossiter may be loaned out to get firstteam football, with Dundee United and Fleetwood Town among those to have expressed an interest. And Gerrard says it’s unlikely he’ll add to his squad beyond Polster, adding: ‘Loads of names have come up. I read (Adam) Lallana, the young kid from Northern Ireland (Liam Hassin), five or six have been banded about, but I’ve nothing to say on any of them. ‘I don’t want to say no as something might happen in the coming weeks. At the moment it will be what it is now.’ Gerrard confirmed Lee Wallace is in his plans for Central Park alongside Defoe and Davis. Meanwhile, Dundee boss Jim McIntyre said that Rangers pre-contract signing Glen Kamara is itching to leave for Ibrox now and it is understood he is not part of the Dark Blues’ squad for tomorrow’s Scottish Cup tie with Queen of the South.
