MARTIN CLUNES: ISLANDS OF AMERICA, 9PM, STV
PUERTO RICO, America’s third-largest island — and the only one where Spanish is the main language — is Martin’s next stop on his delightful tour. There, he looks very uncomfortable when he tries salsa dancing, but his reward is a glass of the local speciality, the pina colada. Even more fascinating is his trip to the Sea Islands, off Georgia, which are home to the Gullah Geechee people (pictured). Direct descendants of slaves, they are keen to keep their African heritage alive. He completes his tour on the quiet island backwater of Chincoteague, off the coast of Virginia, where he attends the world famous annual event known as the Pony Swim.
